Hope and Aid Direct is often helped by the Rotary Clubs Emergency Box Scheme
When a disaster strikes, people need necessities like food, clothes, and a dry place to sleep. They need essential supplies, basic tools and some of the many things it takes to start the rebuilding of their lives. Rotary International offers this immediate aid requirement by providing their Emergency Boxes. These Emergency Boxes are available for both hot and cold climates with the contents lists specifically tailored by the Red Cross, each box providing vital aid for adults and children. Held in Rotary warehouses, boxes filled with essential provisions are stored ready for instant dispatch whenever required and provide immediate relief for the victims.

Hope and Aid Direct have sent many boxes of aid to Jacqui in Pristina who works for Hope and Homes for Children and runs three small family homes for children in need of protection. They have established the only residential family homes for children in need of protection in Kosovo, one in Pristina and the other in Prizren. The homes provide temporary accommodation for vulnerable children regardless of ethnic background, religion or place of birth. We are often the last or only hope for children who have spent most of their lives living in fear of abuse. The aim of both our homes is to reunite children with their immediate or extended families. If this is not possible we find caring foster or adoptive parents. The UN has used the management systems in place in our homes as examples of good practice for other service providers. We are therefore setting the standards in which future child care services will be measured and required to operate.

Kosovo became a province of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia after the 2nd World War. Violence erupted in 1998 following the earlier breakdown of the Republic.
The Kosovo Liberation Army came out in open rebellion against Serbian rule. Although the conflict lasted only 78 days, it left thousands of people dead, and displaced over 500,000.
The country is still recovering from the impact of the conflict. Even now families continue to live in damaged or partially reconstructed homes and many schools are in a state of disrepair.
